Hi I’m Jan
Over time, I have found the thing that really gives me a buzz is helping people improve their movement and wellbeing which ultimately improves their life. But, how did I get to find that this is what I really enjoy doing? Please allow me to take you through a brief journey of my life.
Ever since I can remember, movement has played such an important part of my life. When I was 5, my mum signed me up for dance classes in an attempt to make me more confident; an act that would shape the rest of my life. I won the West Midlands Ballet championship when I was 15 and left home for stage school at Laine Theatre Arts when I was 16. After graduating, I toured all over the world to exotic places such as Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, Cyprus, Dubai and Egypt to name but a few.
Since starting in the fitness industry over 25 years ago I have taught many fitness disciplines, from Aerobics to gym instructor, dance to step, studio cycling and spinning to Zumba, kettle bells to personal training. The part that always kept coming up, the bit that I enjoyed the most, was helping people.
In 1997 I started studying Anatomy, Physiology and body massage to improve my knowledge and be able to help people further. After becoming a qualified masseuse, I progressed into Aromatherapy, Reflexology and Indian Head massage, it seemed a natural progression to lead me in to Pilates.
I trained in Modern Pilates with Chery Baker and her team to level 3 which has a clinical approach on helping the body rebalance itself. The tutors are all of an extremely high level, most being practicing physiotherapists and taught extra specialist courses that I have completed in pre and postnatal, older adult, specialised in Hip, Knee and Shoulder rehabilitation. This led me on to studying back Pain management at level 4 and sports therapy and massage at level 5.
As a dancer I have suffered from back pain and knee issues and believe that Pilates is the key to improving movement and keeping the body in balance. I love to learn and am never too far away from doing a course. My passion is to help people and give them a better quality of life.
